Steam is coming to Linux!!!. If you don't believe me check out this link: http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux. Valve will start off by releasing Left 4 Dead 2, with more of their games to follow.

  1. Yeah this is awesome. They've been busy on this behind the scenes for a while now, and it is going to absolutely explode the Linux gaming market.

    I cannot wait.

Also, there are rumours abound that this is part of a long term plan for a Linux-based Steam Console. It's only rumors at this point, but it does make sense from Valve's point of view. Trying to get Steam onto Xbox or PS does not really pose any value for them. If they can control the console, well, then that changes things.

Anyways, still only rumors but the idea does seem enthralling and it could change the whole gaming landscape for the better (no more hardcopy MS/Sony lockin, cheaper games, etc.)

Also VERY interesting. A $99 hacker-friendly Android-based gaming console. Count me in!

  3. That's doubly awesome. I think both these products (Steam on linux and Ouya) are going to disrupt the gaming industry.

  5. Excuse me for sounding like a fanboy, but the next blog post is out: http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux/faster-zombies/

The good (bestestest) news is that Valve's efforts will really benefit the linux community in terms of graphics drivers from nVidia and AMD.

  6. Btw, if you guys have been keeping up, the Steam-linux beta is now officially open to all. There are a couple of games already available: http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/. Most of them are indie-games (that had Linux support in the past). But consider this the start of something bigger, especially with Valve porting their source-engine to Linux (you can already play Team Fortress 2 on Linux for free) and Left 4 Dead 2 will soon be available. And yes, the next big thing in gaming is Valve unifying PC and Console-gaming by bringing the PC to the living room (see their Big Picture mode if you're not convinced and also this blog post: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/windows-8-steambox-and-the-future-of-pc-gaming/) . They already list if games have full or partial controller support.
